NEWCASTLE UNIVERSITY CONVOCATION WEEKEND

Dear Graduate,

As Head of the School of Agriculture, Food & Rural Development, I am writing to invite you to Newcastle University’s Convocation Weekend, which will take place between Friday 17th and Sunday 19th June 2011.

The School will be taking part in the morning school events as part of the of the weekend, and I am especially excited to invite you to visit us on Saturday 18th between 10am-12pmhttp://www.ncl.ac.uk/alumni/events/cw11/programme/page.htm?agriculture-food-rural-development-event

This year the weekend will also partner with the highly popular EAT and VAMOS Festivals which provide further outstanding opportunities for a thoroughly stimulating weekend; as an example our guests are invited to join the EAT launch pa rty on the Friday night at the Stephenson Works.

Highlights of the afternoon include the annual meeting of Convocation, the statutory body that represents all alumni and ensures that their views and ideas are understood. Convocation will provide alumni with an opportunity to discuss matters of current interest and hear the Vice-Chancellor’s report on the latest activities and developments at the University. This will be followed by what we are sure will be a very thought-provoking public lecture delivered by architect and graduate Mr Jeremy Blake, entitled ‘A Sustainable Revolution’.

Convocation Weekend on campus will culminate on Saturday evening with a delightful summer evening soire. Guests will be greeted with a refreshing beverage and will enjoy a delicious spread of food prepared by our talented chefs at the Courtyard. Some interesting entertainment will be sure to set the mood and old friends will once again be reunited for what we are sure will be the best Convocation Weekend yet. For those still looking to dance the night away, a Latin Garden will be a further option with the Bacalao Men from Venezuela performing live.

For up-to-date details of the programme, online booking and further information please visit the alumni website:http://www.ncl.ac.uk/alumni/events/cw11

You can also register and reserve your place at any of the weekend events by contacting Maria Szpitun in the alumni office on 0191 222 3638 or by e-mail at: maria.szpitun@ncl.ac.uk
